Sheila Martin shared this picture she took of JD in a field of bluebonnets in Texas several years ago. JD was deeply spiritual as you will see from his online journal that he wrote in his final years. To access it, click the image.JD in 2012 before rafting the Penobscot with Hoggers

One Comment on “Remembering JD Martin”
JD was my roommate in Overton sophomore year. He and Don Melson and I shared a triple on the third floor, with a connecting doorway to Bruce Berk and Jim Boak next door. Talk about a setup for rambunctiousness! Despite all the distractions that swirled around him, JD was a hard-working, down-to-earth kid who took school seriously and ran the 440 with determined grit. He was definitely one of the “good guys.” I’m not at all surprised that he went on to lead the life he did, unselfishly devoting himself to the well-being of the hundreds if not thousands of students who worked with him over the years, especially at St. Andrews. And I feel fortunate that I got to spend a bit more time with him before his passing on one of the mini-reunions Gene Ward has been organizing. He was a man of heart and substance who will be greatly missed.
