Submitted by Gene Ward: Tom was a member of our Merry Band of Wanderers and I had the pleasure of getting to know him on our third outing. He was an early riser and jumped right in on breakfast detail so we could talk before others were out of their bunks. Each morning he’d greet me with “top of the morning to you.” My best memory of Tom is from early in that weekend when we were heading north. He was following me in a rental car as he was to see his mother in Maine the following week. I was pulled over for speeding by the police in some small town. As I was conversing with my new pal on the local force, I got a text from Tom. “Need bail?” The officer and I both got a laugh and I think Tom helped get me off with a warning. RIP, pal.
