The Echo Archives

The first issue of Northfield’s The Echo was issued April 13, 1961, taking its name from a NASA communications satellite. The publication opened as follows: “As an experiment, we submit to you this first edition of Echo I. It is our hope that this paper will strengthen school spirit and unity. We will strive to never let it become merely a gripe sheet.” The final issue was published at the end of the 1969 school year as the merger of Northfield and Mount Hermon advanced, making it a time capsule of the 1960s.
